Today we celebrate the 18th anniversary of Bishop Emeritus Thomas J. Tobin's installation as the eighth Bishop of Providence on this day in 2005 in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Providence! His was one of the last American appointments made by Saint John Paul II.

Most Reverend Ernest Bertrand Boland, O.P., D. D., died on Pentecost Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the Jeanne Jugan Residence (Little Sisters of the Poor) in Pawtucket, RI, where he had resided since 2017. He was Bishop Emeritus of Multan, Pakistan, and a member of the Order of Friars Preachers (Dominican Friars) of the Province of St. Joseph and of the Dominican Friars’ Community at Providence College. Reception of the Body will be on Thursday, June 1, at 4pm, in the Chapel of the Priory of St. Thomas Aquinas at Providence College. Calling Hours will follow until 7pm, when the Office of the Dead will be celebrated. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, June 2, at 10am, in the same Chapel. Burial will follow in the Dominican Friars' cemetery on the Providence College campus.
